Cambridge Islamic Finance Leadership Programme (Cambridge-IFLP) enjoys the reputation of being the first and the only global leadership programme specifically structured for middle and upper-middle management personnel of Islamic financial institutions. Designed and structured by Cambridge IFA, the programme is delivered by some of the most influential leaders in Islamic banking and finance.
Held every summer at Clare College, University of Cambridge, UK; Cambridge-IFLP attracts delegates from world over including Europe, Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and Asia. This 5-day residential programme aims to prepare the next generation of outstanding leaders in Islamic banking & finance by providing them with unique mentoring opportunities, rigorous leadership training from renowned leaders, and industry-specific perspectives through case studies specifically written for this programme. Our leadership programme has been uniquely designed to ensure that delegates gain the most benefits from the presence of these global leaders who share their leadership insights on what it takes to be a leader in this age of disruption, innovation and uncertainty. They share their take on the future of Islamic finance and how can one lead the industry into the next phase of development.
Leadership Talks covers a wide range of topics and perspectives, including structuring and product development, human resource development, leadership roles of Shari’a scholars and law firms, and leadership perspectives from experts from outside the Islamic financial services industry. With a number of Leadership Talks given by industry leaders, Cambridge- IFLP delegates benefits from in-depth knowledge and understanding from industry experts on how to develop themselves into effective and influential leaders in their respective organisations and in the global Islamic financial services industry.
Leadership can best be understood by studying and closely observing the leaders. Cambridge-IFLP aims to invite 5 leading personalities in the global Islamic financial services industry to share their perspectives on leadership. The delegates will be able to interact with these leaders formally and informally and ask questions during 5 formal interview sessions. Leadership Interviews provided great first-hand insights into leadership values, philosophies, and qualities as well as an opportunity for delegates to flesh out questions to the leaders themselves.
Leadership Workshops provide delegates with information and practical techniques to create a more positive, personal, and professional culture back in their workplace. Our Leadership Workshops are highly interactive and provide a stimulating learning experience for delegates.
The objective of these workshops is to offer the delegates an opportunity to assess their leadership skills with the help of Workshop Leaders and other delegates in an interactive peer-review process. These workshops, along with interactive social activities during the Cambridge-IFLP and Leadership Activities, will allow the delegates to seek mentorships and develop relationships with the leaders in the Islamic financial services industry.
The aim of Leadership Activities is to identify leadership skills and traits in a fun way. This will also help the delegates to appreciate importance of a number of basic and usually ignored and under-rated skills, notably problem solving, emotions management and cognitive intelligence.
Delegates are introduced to real life case studies written specifically for the programme. Case study is used to gain an understanding of the issue in real life settings and recommended to answer how and why. Every year, we bring different real time case studies to the programme from different segments of the industry. This may include a conversion of a conventional institution to Islamic, or a leading personality in Islamic banking and finance, who have faced a crisis in his/her career. The case attempts to highlight weaknesses and strengths of decision-making during a crisis.
There will be numerous social activities, allowing the delegates to interact with each other and with mentors to benefit from them in relaxed, yet productive, environment of the University of Cambridge. During the 5 days at Clare College, delegates will take part in several social activities that are a must on the “to do” list when one is visiting the University of Cambridge. These include punting on the River Cam and enjoying one of Shakespeare’s famous play at King’s College garden. During the garden party at the Fellow’s Garden, delegates have the opportunity to enjoy the British summer weather while at the same time horned their leadership skills during the Cambridge IFLP Treasure Hunt activity organised on the college grounds.
